Arts Award, Wiltshire, and 2012 news and subsidised training!

October 26, 2011 No Comments

I am delivering some subsidised bronze & silver Arts Award adviser training for a Wiltshire Council partnership project for schools, youth workers and artists in Wiltshire who would like to take part in Wiltshire’s Flame project to celebrate 2012.

First subsidised day is OCTOBER 3rd Salisbury Arts Centre, second February date to be announced shortly.

Arts Award in the South West and Wiltshire Council have teamed up to launch a unique year long programme to support 250 young people in Wiltshire to celebrate their creativity and energy in 2012 and get a nationally recognised qualification. The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Wiltshire’s Flame” is a county-wide programme offering free and subsidised Arts Award training for professionals looking to run the award with young people. The training will be on offer to arts & youth organisations, artists, arts practitioners, and teachers in Wiltshire who want to take part by supporting young people doing their Bronze, Silver, or Gold Arts Award – taking the Olympic flame and the 2012 Games as their inspiration. Support for those who are already running the award, in the form of free or subsidised assessment of young people’s work (moderations), will also be available.

The project will culminate in two awards ceremonies, the first will be timed to mark the journey of the Olympic Torch through Wiltshire in June 2012 and the second will be timed to coincide with the closing of the Olympic Games in September 2012. The best and most inspiring work will be showcased at the VIP presentations

Arts Award is a national qualification which supports young people aged 11-25 to develop as artists and arts leaders. Arts Awardis run at three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold – which are accredited on the Qualifications & Credit Framework at Levels 1, 2 and 3. The partnership with Wiltshire Council means that at least 20 new Arts Award advisers are trained, and more young people will be able to access the qualification.

Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: ’Wiltshire’s Flame is encouraging young people to fulfil their potential. I am proud that with the help of partners such as Arts Award and Wiltshire Council we are delivering our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation and achievements in the arts’

To find out more about taking part in the programme including training and briefing dates for teachers, artists and youth workers who would like their young people to take part contact Wiltshire Council Arts Service 01249 705500 or arts@wiltshire.gov.uk
